Summer Activities with a Toddler

The wonderful sun is showing high in the sky with the nice warm heat. It's been pretty much 80 degrees every day here up north. My 16-month-old loves the outdoors so coming up with ideas to keep her busy and cool is the main objective of my day.

My daughter loves the water but we can't go to the lake every day, so I got her a cute affordable kiddie pool for our yard. It's a blowup jungle-themed kiddie pool that connects to the hose of your house. We got it from Target for $40

Another thing we love to do is go to the splash pad in our town. It is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. The kids play there for hours. There are multiple sprinklers and water activities to keep kids constantly entertained. Just google splash pad near me and you should find the nearest one possible. The splash pad is for many ages. If you have older kids and younger kids take all with you and the older kids will play with the younger kids, so they won't look silly.

When my daughter has too much sun we go inside and have a popsicle to cool and hydrate. We don't spend all day outside due to her precious skill is so light that she might get burned. We then play with blocks, the little people dolls, and other toys she likes. When she's too tired to play but too wake to sleep we watch a little bit of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney plus. If you don't have Disney plus, you can watch it on youtube for free.

Some other activities you could do inside while cooling off if your child is a little older is playdough, coloring, learning games, etc. With coloring, we bought a mat that colors with water, and once drys it cleans itself. So can make sure your walls stay clean of the marker and it's easy to pack up.

There are many playdough recipes for kids that are nontoxic. I wouldn't buy playdough from the store because it drys out so quickly and is expensive for a little bit of dough. Whereas if you make it you can make a huge batch for half the cost. My family has its own playdough recipe, but you can find many on Pinterest. Here's one for example

You could take a walk with your toddler and push them in the stroller. If it's just you and your toddler then listen to an audiobook while walking. Kill two birds with one stone. You get to finally finish the book you've been trying to read but don't have time for due to your toddler running around, and you get your toddler some sunshine. You could even walk to the park for your toddler to play and save some gas. Since gas is getting so expensive and there's a shortage. I get my audiobooks from audible which you can get on your phone and pay for each book you want.

In conclusion, there are so many fun activities you can do with your child this summer. All you have to do is look. I hope you have a great summer and have so much fun in the nice heat. See you back here soon with another blog post!
